It is almost September and we would like to share the preview for the September 2018 release with you. A number of new features are included in this release Qlik Sense added! The Insight Advisor will be extended to all users of Qlik Sense apps, including users of published apps with the ability to search and generate insights about master items.
Overview – some new features:
- All users of Qlik Sense apps can make extensive use of Insight Advisor.
- Publish apps from the hub.
- Implemented improvements to the expression editor.
- More control when creating visualizations.
- New layers for the Density Map have been added and other improvements have been made to map functionality.
- QSE is now also supported in an AirWatch EMM environment (Safari and Chrome).
- There are new Qlik connectors available.
- Finally: This is the first release of the Qlik Associative Big Data Index (Qlik's associative experience will be delivered to Big Data).

Advanced Authoring
Improvements around sheet management, customizations, visualizations and the expression editor.
Sheet control improvements:
- Better control of Sense Client when using a hybrid device (device that supports events in the touch and mouse input).
- Ability to have default bookmarks, now a bookmark can be set as default, which will be applied when the Qlik Sense application opens as the initial initial selection state.
More extensive customizations:
Custom size (in pixels) for sheets to disable client responsiveness, except for mobile device mode.
Expression editor improvements:
- Help: direct link to the Qlik Sense help page from expression functions.
- Categories: regulated categorization of functions.
- Search: Easier to find field names, functions, and variables.
Better control in visualizations:
- Ability to show/hide columns in a pivot table.
- Master measures can now be adjusted with color scales or gradients, a convenient alternative to custom color expressions.
Visualizations and mapping
New density map layer and general mapping improvements.
New map layer:
Density layer is a multi-colored gradient map background where the color intensity depends on the weight and proximity of points, which is useful for mapping neighborhood-level data such as: crime statistics, home values, etc.
Map improvements:
- Adaptive pixel zoom and pan to optimize performance when browsing dense maps.
- Default colors for added layers; each new layer gets an independent color from the palette.
- KML files with geographic line data can now be loaded and rendered.
- Size and width field labels to make legends and popups easier to read.
Management and governance:
Improvements to the back-end workflow:
Ability to move one or more apps from stream to stream within the QMC, building on the functionality released in the April 2018 QSE release of
moving one app from stream to stream.
Improvements to the June 2018 release around performance, stability, and security:
- Upgrade of the version of the open source front-end framework (Angular.JS) that provides better stability/compatibility.
- Mobile
- QSE is now supported in the AirWatch EMM environment (Safari and Chrome).
- Qlikconnectors
- New connectors: MS Azure SQL DB & JIRA and enhanced security for LDAP authentication.
- With the Qlik Sense September 2018 release, we continue to expand connectivity options and have added native connectivity to MS Azure SQL DB, with tested and supported integration. Also with this release, the JIRA connector is released from Beta to GA.
- September 2018 provides enhanced security for LDAP authentication, which is built into the Qlik ODBC Connector. This will improve customer experiences and value over time through industry-recognized encryption and authentication standards.
Improvements of Qlik NPrinting
Administration, Authoring, and Consumption Updates
Administration:
- Import users and roles from an LDAP source.
- Enable customers to replace the TLS Cipher suite that provides full control over the list of supported algorithms for any connection using TLS.
- Logout from session expiration to ensure that when customers log out of Qlik Printing, previously set cookies are no longer valid and privacy is improved.
Author:
Generate Excel reports in .xlsm format. Ability to not only accept .xlsm uploads, but also perform .xlsm uploads.
Consumption:
Password protection for reports that can be set at a report, publish task, or report level to enhance security and permissions
Qlik Associative Big Data Index.
September 2018 will also see the first release of the Qlik Associative Big Data Index are included, reflecting the associative experience of Qlik will deliver to Big Data. This product will initially be offered through an Early Availability Program. Details about this program will be announced shortly.
